In a blog post, he explained that he had created a way to make sure that anyone with a computer could mine bitcoins, rather than just the big players with the expensive mining equipment. This process is called mining, and the resulting coins are called bitcoins. Nakamoto also announced that he would release the source code for his invention on October 31, 2015, so that anyone could copy it and start mining bitcoins themselves. This revolutionary new invention quickly caught on and many people are now mining bitcoins in their spare time. Today, it’s estimated that over 50% of all bitcoin mining takes place on computers with 4 or more central processing units. In a blog post published on September 29, 2017, Satoshi Nakamoto wrote that his invention was no longer useful and that he would stop the creation of new bitcoins.
